Conscious Collaboration Commitment

In the spirit of conscious collaboration and guided by the profound question, "What type of ancestor do you want to be?" Adah Parris introduces the Conscious Collaboration Commitment. This comprehensive commitment is a reflection of her values and serves as a testament to her dedication to fostering holistic, sustainable, and inclusive engagements with her clients. Beyond the conventional terms of engagement, this commitment transcends the boundaries of business and artistry to encapsulate Adah's vision of impactful collaboration. It encompasses not only sustainability but also ethics, culture, and the responsible use of knowledge.

The Conscious Collaboration Commitment is an invitation to embark on a journey where creativity, innovation, and ethical considerations harmoniously coexist, leaving a legacy that embraces diversity, environmental consciousness, and respect for cultural wisdom.

Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity:

  • Respectful Engagement: The Client and all involved parties shall ensure respectful engagement with knowledge, wisdom, and practices from indigenous and marginalised communities. Adah Parris emphasises the importance of acknowledging and honouring the intellectual property, cultural heritage, and contributions of these communities.

  • Non-Discrimination: Discrimination, racism, or marginalisation of any kind shall not be tolerated during the event or in any associated activities. Adah Parris promotes an inclusive environment that values diversity in thought and experience.

  • Cultural Appropriation: Cultural appropriation, defined as the unacknowledged or disrespectful use of elements from marginalised cultures, is strictly prohibited. Adah Parris encourages a commitment to culturally sensitive practices and ensuring that cultural heritage is treated with the utmost respect.

Travel and accommodation:

  • Transport Choices: Adah will consider the environmental impact of transport choices and will aim to minimise emissions. This includes prioritising trains over planes in the UK and Europe whenever feasible, participating in car-sharing where practical, and opting for lower-emission airlines when air travel is unavoidable.

  • Low Carbon Options: The Client will endeavor to provide low-carbon transport options, such as trains or electric vehicles, for Adah's travel. If these options are not available, a valid explanation will be provided.

  • Emission Reduction: Adah and the Client will collaborate to explore ways to reduce emissions associated with her travel, such as choosing economy class on shorter flights or selecting lower-emission airlines.

  • Travel Efficiency: Adah and the Client will explore ways to reduce travel from the outset of the project. This includes selecting event locations that minimise overseas travel, using local production companies and staff, sharing resources when possible, and leveraging technology for virtual attendance when appropriate.

Materials and Waste:

  • Reusable Products: Adah will bring her reusable products, such as a water bottle, coffee cup, and cutlery, to the venue.

  • Sustainable Make-up: If Adah's keynote presentation is being filmed, she will collaborate with the make-up team to use sustainable, cruelty-free, and vegan products.

  • Recycling and Composting: Adequate recycling and composting facilities will be provided on set to ensure responsible disposal of waste.

  • Zero Waste Policy: The Client will operate a zero-waste-to-landfill and zero single-use plastic policy on set.

  • Circular Economy: The Client will consider the principles of a circular economy when selecting materials for stage sets and event carpeting, prioritising sustainable materials and responsible disposal or storage at the end of the event.

Nature and Biodiversity:

  • Biodiversity Considerations: The Client will evaluate and mitigate biodiversity impacts in outdoor event spaces, addressing concerns like air and noise pollution, litter, soil, and habitat disturbance.

  • Procurement Practices: Biodiversity impacts, such as deforestation, will be evaluated and mitigated during the procurement process for materials like wood and food.

  • Regeneration: Commitment to leaving natural environments in better or regenerated states than before the event, particularly by involving local communities in regenerative efforts.

  • Non-toxic Products: The Client will ensure that all products used during the event are non-toxic to wildlife.

Catering:

  • Sustainable Food: The Client will aim to provide sustainable, organic, and locally sourced food options.

  • Minimise Food Waste: Strategies to minimise food waste, such as pre-ordering of meals and systems for donation and composting of unused food, will be implemented.

  • Reusable Products: Whenever possible, reusable dishes, cutlery, and bottles will be used, or fully compostable and responsibly disposable alternatives will be provided.

Energy Use:

  • Energy Efficiency: Adah will strive to minimise energy consumption by using shared dressing rooms, avoiding unnecessary travel to and from the event venue, and collaborating with event teams to reduce energy use.

  • Carbon Reduction Plan: The Client will provide Adah with a carbon reduction plan that outlines concrete steps to reduce carbon emissions associated with the event.

  • Renewable Energy: Event locations, production offices, and post-production facilities will be powered by renewable energy tariffs whenever possible.

  • Energy Conservation: A culture of efficient energy consumption will be fostered during the event, including policies against engine idling, turning off lights, heaters, and generators when not in use, and promoting the use of electric vehicles and public transport.
